Bulimia
Bulimia is one of the eating disorders associated with episodic attacks of overeating, followed by artificial excretion of ingested food. In cases of illness, a large amount of food and calories are ingested in a short period of time, from which a person gets rid of, causing artificial vomiting. Bulimia often begins with a diet that over time develops into a serious and difficult-to-diagnose eating disorder based on psycho-emotional dissatisfaction with oneself.
The most noticeable symptoms of bulimia are:
- frequent, compulsive eating, mostly high-calorie and fat foods like cheat-meals;
- artificially induced vomiting;
- excessive use of diarrhea and diuretics;
- fanatical interest in physical activity;
- increased interest in the body appearance and weight;
- low self-esteem;
- distorted and markedly negative opinion of one's body;
- frequent going to the bathroom after meals;
- inability to control one's eating habits;
- damaged teeth and gums;
- swollen cheeks, salivary glands;
- sore throat and mouth;
- dehydration;
- irregular heartbeat;
- ulcers, scars or blisters on hands or fingers;
- menstrual disorders or complete disappearance of menstruation;
- constant diet or fasting;
- possible use of alcohol or drugs.
