Psychological research

Psychological assessment is a relatively quick, structured way to obtain information about various areas:

  • Cognitive abilities (e.g. IQ, memory, thinking, attention, work speed, etc.),
  • Personality traits,
  • Psycho-emotional state,
  • Various disorders (e.g. anxiety, depression, ADHD, mental illnesses, etc.).

The information obtained, in turn, allows specialists to clarify the diagnosis and determine possible therapeutic goals or helps the client better understand themselves, their abilities and difficulties.

The total duration of the assessment depends on the aim (the area to be tested) and the client’s work speed. An integral part of psychological assessment is the initial meeting and conversation. The minimum required total assessment time is two hours.

The psychological assessment can be divided into several parts, which are combined as necessary according to the research objective:

  • Pre-assessment interview. During the interview, the purpose of the research and client’s complaints are identified, as well as the client’s life experience is discussed. This is an integral part of the research, as the information obtained during the interview is analyzed and interpreted together with the data obtained in further assessment. This part of the assessment, depending on the specific client, can last from half an hour and longer.
  • Cognitive ability tests. This part of the assessment uses various tasks or series of tasks to identify whether the client has any cognitive difficulties. Usually, several tasks are used to test one cognitive faculty in order to obtain the most accurate data. The length of this part of the assessment depends on the number of tasks required and the client’s work speed. The assessment takes one or more hours.
  • Psycho-emotional state and personality traits. In this part of the assessment various surveys are used, which mostly cover both psycho-emotional state and personality traits. The surveys may include questions about physical, emotional and otercomplaints, to obtain information needed to clarify the diagnosis.
  • Assessment in cases of specific disorders, etc. In addition to the standard assessment, it is possible to assess various specific disorders, however, it is recommended to also examine the psychoemotional state and personality traits that may have been caused by these disorders, for example Attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). During the examination, various cognitive ability tasks and surveys are combined. The assessment takes two hours and more.
  • Post traumatic experience assessment. Various questionnaires and a clinical interview is used during the assessment. The study takes one or more hours.
  • Ddissociative disorders assessment. Various questionnaires and a clinical interview is used during the assessment. The study takes one or more hours.
  • Assessment for the State Medical Commission for the Assessment of Health Condition and Working Ability . During the assessment, different methods are combined depending on the area. The assessments takes one or more hours.
  • Assessment for exemption from exams. During the assessment, various methods are combined depending on the area being examined. The research takes one or more hours.
  • etc. as needed.

Documents and information required for the psychological assessment:

It is advisable to come to the examination with a referral from your treating physician or therapist, which states the purpose of the examination as precisely as possible (see information above). If you do not have a referral, the purpose of the examination will be defined during the first meeting (conversation).

Before the assessment, it is also advisable to obtain information or reflect on the following stages and events in your life: early development (e.g. birth trauma, age at birth, age at which you started talking, walking, various serious illnesses, traumas); experience in kindergarten, school; etc.
